On a recent visit to Los Angeles I took a walk through the streets of the western most parts of Skid Row section of DTLA. This area of sidewalks, alleys, gutters, streets and condemned buildings has been home to thousands since I was a young boy. ive always been saddened and even at times, im embarrassed to admit, scared by the sight of block after block of tent cities. A community it also seems that really is choosing to live as they are. One might say there is even a pride amongst many of its members, that this place is their place, in ways no other place in their lives has been before.I wouldn’t venture too deep into the neighborhood alone, and definitely not by foot, but I did go deep enough to capture a small glimpse into a world unlike any other in the world.
